FatherLove Survey of King County Adults

Opinions and Behaviors around Fathering

Why do a survey about fathering?

"This is the first time anyone has asked about fathers"

Based on experience, FatherLove had the perception that many children in King County could benefit from more active father involvement. We commissioned this survey from Gilmore Research to find out the status of fathering in King County.

Research shows that when fathers are actively involved in their children’s lives, children:

  • are healthier
  • do better in school
  • are less likely to commit crimes
  • are less likely to have emotional or behavioral problems

Survey Findings

  • King County adults agree that fathers are important in children’s lives, although not all are informed about fathers’ influence on school performance & risky behaviors
  • Not many know about services to help fathers be connected with their children
  • It is encouraging to see that dads seem to be involved in their children’s schools
  • Enthusiasm that ‘someone is asking about fathers’ but a lack of awareness of programs for fathers
  • Topics covered in the survey
